Office manager Sam Emery is unemployed and out of luck. When his emotionally abusive wife demands a divorce, he contacts the one person he has left, his brother, Neil. He doesn't expect Neil to reject him, but he also doesn't expect the news of his divorce - and of his sexuality - to be met with such acceptance.

Neil takes Sam to Lang Downs, the sheep station Neil calls home. There, Sam learns that life as a gay man isn't impossible. Caine and Macklin, the station owners, certainly seem to be making it work. When Caine offers Sam a job, it's a dream come true.

Jeremy Taylor leaves the only home he's ever known when his brother's homophobia becomes more than he can bear. He goes to the one place he knows he will be accepted Lang Downs. He clicks with Sam instantly - but the animosity between Lang Downs and Jeremy's home station runs deep, and the jackaroos won't accept Jeremy without a fight. Between Sam's insecurity and Jeremy's precarious position, their road will be a hard one - and that's without having to wait for Sam's divorce to be final before starting a new life together.

Outlast the Night Lang Downs (Audible Audio Edition) Ariel Tachna William James Dreamspinner Press LLC Books

This one is plotted very meticulously and comes out just as the previous two in the series: Heartwarming, splendidly written, and love all over the place, familial and carnal.

Sam Emery is in the middle of a divorce and is way deep in the closet but his previously homophobic brother, Neil, invites him to come to Lang Downs. There Macklin and Caine make him at home, of course--even though he has no clue what to do on a sheep farm.

Jeremy Taylor has a knock-down-drag-out fight with his sheep-ranch managing brother who wants him to change his sexuality and marry. But Jeremy, also in the closet, high-tails it out to the rival sheep ranch up the road, Lang Downs, on the same day as Sam arrives.

Caine makes Sam his office manager and Macklin takes Jeremy on as a jackaroo, and it is all that simple--except it's not. These two men, wrapped in their closets and insecurities for a lifetime, come together as friends, and not lovers...at first. Then it becomes overwhelmingly obvious that friendship may not be enough, but if Sam is discovered to be gay by his wife before the divorce is final, it's really bad for him and whatever relationship he wants to develop with Jeremy.

Added to this mix are the by now very welcome back and forths between Macklin and Caine, both in and out of the bedroom, with a major life development and change for one of them. In the end, what comes from a chance meeting of two men whose families hurt them badly is a chance to become members of a larger family, a clan of loving people, who welcome the outcasts and make them their own.

Outlast the Night Lang Downs (Audible Audio Edition) Ariel Tachna William James Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews

Usually Ariel Tachna's books are a no-brainer buy for me. I was excited to see another Lang Downs book available, but that was where the excitement ended. There was NO heat. No passion. The only reason I give it as many as three stars is that it at least builds on the Lang Downs world and we got to see some follow-up on the other characters. But the pacing felt off - a slow build-up to a few pages of abrupt wrap up and then - poof - nothing. Tachna better pull out all the stops in number four and give us some real resolution for this couple's story, because number three left us hanging.
The author continues on the same way as the other books. Although this book wasn't as enthralling as the first two, it was a good continuation of the story, and included updates on Caine and Macklin. Good story.
This is the third book in the Lang Downs series, set in Australia. Unlike many such series, this continues to follow the evolution of the original main characters as well as introducing new ones. The "hookup" in this one was predictable early on but dealt with yet another aspect of mature gay men trying to find their way in a world that, especially in this setting, is not very forgiving. While there are no explicit, long drawn-out descriptive sex scenes, the emotional aspects of these men's lives are compelling enough for a good read. I continue to enjoy this author's works and hope for more.
I enjoyed the earlier books in this series but this book really stretched credibility too far. It is so wildly unlikely that all these gay graziers are turning up at one isolated station, that I was able to overlook that. However, unlike the others in this series, the premise of the story was too flimsy and unbelievable. There is no inheritance tax in Australia. Only capital gains tax, and seeing as the story has been along the lines of showing that the business was going downhill, there may have been a tax credit rather than debit. A small family-run hardware store employing a back office business manager seems very unlikely, as does his apparent business acumen.

An Australian consultant/advisor might have been useful. In the previous books the author had clearly done a lot of research, which was impressive, but there were also Americanisms that are annoying and take the (Australian) reader out of the story. Such as the very American terms 'fixings' and 'sides' in relation to preparing food.

I think that really an isolated station is a canvass too small for all these gay characters to be introduced, couple after couple. Maybe it would have been better to continue the story of the existing couples rather than introduce another one.

The first two books of the series are worth reading. However, maybe give this one a miss.
